That is an excellent y magnifique retelling, Monsieur Etienne. You have my permission, if you so choose, to change "Happy Hour" to the more apropos "Matt Night". :-)

Thanks for mentioning me here, it’s lovely to see the results of bouncing ideas off each other. I love the suggestion of postcards for the photos and then writing what you see and hear! Fabulous idea!

I’d love to hear your local area and see your post cards! I might do the same for here, albeit post cards are harder to find, I have a supplier from an artist. ☺️

I have been considering tossing in the occasional post about local life here in the sticks of Japan, but it is a bit off-topic for me. That sad, I am sure I can find a way to make it topical. Thanks for the suggestion.

I would certainly be interested in reading about the socks of Japan! I look forward to whatever writing you get out into the world.

🤣 Are you actually interested in socks, or was that a typo for sticks? There are tabi socks here, so I guess there would be something to discuss, but I am certainly no expert on socks.

Hahahhahahahaah I didn’t notice that… If there’s a story to tell about the socks of Japan 🧦 I’m down. I do love a pair of socks. What are tabi socks?

My Japanese students used to always wear socks and flip flops in their rooms that made me chuckle. I find myself thinking of them whenever I do it now.

Tabi socks are worn with slippers. There is one section for the big toe, and another for the rest of the foot.

Ahhhhhh yes! Very handy for the flip flop situation I was thinking of with my students. They did not wear tabi socks with them though, albeit it make sense where the sock flip flop combo comes from.

Sending postcards is a great idea., to yourself and others. Not only do you send something interesting about your trip but there is a professional photo, and a stamp (often demonstrating the wonders of miniature art). And it is probably the only time other people see your handwriting!

At the end of each holiday my husband and I would write a postcard to each other, writing of our favourite moments in the holiday. We would then send them home. Back at home, when worklife had begun in earnest, we would receive the postcard, and it would bring back all the joy of the holiday.

My husband has died and the postcards are treasured mementos of our holidays.

I love the interactive aspect of this. My wife and lived halfway across the country from each other early on in our marriage. This was before Skype and FaceTime, so we did call each other on a regular basis. We would also send each other cute messages by postcard on occasion. We have a box of them on a shelf around here somewhere...

It is lovely if you have handwritten messages and cards. Most people send texts and make video calls, which are great but leave nothing behind.
