When I woke up this morning, one of the first images that popped into my head was the end of the classic SNL Dunkin’ Donuts sketch which ends with “Go back to Starbucks!”
I love to revisit that video when I get homesick. It makes me feel like I am back home in New England for a bit.
Thank you very much for the mention and support, Steve! And congrats on going paid. It is a wonderful journey to embark on in your next phase of writing. It will be filled with ups and downs, joy and disappointment, but rest assured it will be a fantastic experience with lots to write about. Looking forward to reading your next story.
Thanks for the kind words, Winston. Writing, like life, is rather similar to a rollercoaster. It is the ups and downs that make it interesting. Glad to have you along for the ride.
A paywall to finance your subscriptions! Brilliant idea. I will get back to you on this as my finances are a bloody mess. And now I have to look up all the people you mentioned being subscribed to!😂you stopped drinking you say? So did I . Although I’m craving one right now. It was fate brought me to your post. In other words, I won’t drink. At least not today. Your drawing blown up on that big screen looked fabulous.. was it all entirely free hand? Do you sketch before making the final outline? Your sense of proportion and perspective are wonderful to the eye. I simply have to make time and get down to drawing damn it!😂taking photos on my phone, with the aim of later drawings of the various scenes, seemed like a good idea, but has replaced any physical output. Procrastination is a bitch.!!
I drank my last beer on April 27th this year. One day at a time, Brother. Keep it up. Regarding the sketch, do you mean the stickman in front of the forest? If so, yes, that was just a quick sketch by pen from my imagination while my students were taking a quiz.
Regarding the photos vs. output, you can check out my Tao of Content post.
My heritage is English, Irish, and French. I used to joke I was born from “The Trinity of Hatred.” However, thinking back, I don’t know if I ever sought evidence of any ill-will between the French and Irish, but I knew neither cared for the English too much.
You could say the last bit is an understatement, but even that would be an understatement !! We had our ups and downs with the French down through the years, but there’s 800 years worth of ill will between us and the English!😂 with their rulers, of course. I’ve lived in England. A very tolerant welcoming society, on the whole. That’s quite a bloodline you’ve got going on there. I have some Italian heritage myself on my maternal grandfathers side I believe. It makes for a good suntan. When it shines. If it shines. Thanks again for those links. Substack continues to amaze me. People’s kindness and generosity of spirit is so inspiring.
I am equal parts confused and amused at this seemingly random comment. Did you mean to post this elsewhere? Did I accidently imply I was losing my hair? Thanks for adding a bit of amusing chaos to my weekend.
Thank you for the comment, but I am confused. Did I write something about losing my hair? I did recently shave my head, but that was willingly. Or am I missing a Barry reference? (I have not watched the last season yet.)
- OK. I get the alopecia reference now. I see I was a bit slow on the uptake. Yep, I am hairy for a human, but less so as a gorilla.
- I thought the alopecia comment may have been regarding the actor on the show who has alopecia. Perhaps someone in the show mentioned it last season, and I was out of the loop. FOMO was hijacking my critical thinking skills.
- Putting down American Spirits is probably more complicated than "normal" cigarettes. I smoked Spirits back in the day but reserved them for "relaxing time." I smoked Marlboro lights daily, as they were the quick fix. I found it easier to quit by changing my routine. Take a different route to work, avoid the usual stores on the way home, walk different paths, etc. Good luck with setting them aside.
- Is today Mexican Independence Day? Then what the hell is Cinquo De Mayo? How many Independence Days do they need? Any excuse to eat Mexican food is good enough for me.
Love the Dunkin Donuts comparison. Thanks for the mention and support. <3 <3 <3

BTW, I forgot to mention. No worries about the finances. As I said, no paywall, so no worries. 👍

Sorry, I am on my iPad, so I can’t get the links to look pretty.
BTW, regarding fate, my paternal grandmother’s maiden name was Maher. Another strange bit of happenstance for you.
There’s irish blood coursing through the veins. Many thanks for your time. Greatly appreciated.💚👏

So much to unpack here.

Thank you for tying up the bow on the chaos.
